EcoRove's Demo 2025 Track Talks

Watch EcoRove’s Creative Science Track talk at DEMO 2025, organized by NEW INC and the New Museum. Co-founders Iyad Abou Gaida, Em Joseph, and Jumanah Abbas reflect on the evolution of EcoRove, from its beginnings as an inquiry into land, memory, and community to its current role as a collaborative platform for research, design, filmmaking, and land-rooted resistance.

The talk introduces projects such as Cedar Exodus, Foraging Alternative Ecosystems, and Land Keepers, each exploring how ecological collapse, occupation, and extractive economies converge in the Levant. It also shares our vision for EcoRove’s future as a living ecosystem that returns knowledge and resources to land stewards, builds regenerative media tools, and nurtures networks of solidarity across the Global South and its diasporas.

The Creative Science Track at NEW INC brought together artists, researchers, healers, and technologists exploring speculative design, hybrid ecologies, biotechnology, and experimental approaches to scientific study. The program opened with marine biologist, policy expert, and writer Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, followed by presentations from Creative Science members.

"EcoRove" was part of this lineup, sharing the stage with Kinda Studios, Wendi Yan & Darren Zhu, Alvaro Azcarraga, and Spolia, before joining Track Mentor-in-Residence Elizabeth Hénaff for a group discussion.
